Fireball (recensione di David Sinclair)

Even Ritchie Blackmore was reported to have said that Fireball (1987) was a turkey. Recorded in a hurry, it nevertheless reached Number 1 in 1971 on the back of its predecessor, the ubiquitous In Rock. The passage of time does not act favourably on seven and eight-minute songs like No, No, No and Fools, based on the slenderest of bluesy riffs elaborated into rambling jamming sequences.

Still less does there seem any good latterday reason to sit through the clumsy humour and cod country picking of a disaster like Anyone's Daughter. Those who can remember these and other songs like The Mule,Demon's Eye and No One Came, would doubtless accept their minor status in the Purple canon.

Those who can't are not missing anything here.
